Päivittäinen raportointi Kreikasta: The Greek revolt continues

Despite the relative calm of Christmas, new explosive material was added to the flames of Greece in revolt by a new crime perpetrated by the same class forces of capitalist exploitation and oppression: the night of December 23, when the militant trade unionist among immigrant workers Kostadina Kuneva was returning home, she was attacked by hired killers who threw to her face sulfuric acid. She lost immediately one eye, she is disfigured and now she is struggling for her life in the intensive care unit of Evangelismos Hospital in Athens.

Kreikan kansannousu, 1. – 6. päivä suomeksi

Kreikan kansannousu, 1.

While the protest marches in working class –popular neighborhoods, attacks on police stations, occupations of schools and faculties but also of cultural centers and radio stations continue, the capitalist State does not stop its repression using  the political support not only of the government but also of PASOK and particularly of the Stalinist “Communist” Party-KKE against the so-called “hooligans”.

Päivittäinen raportointi Kreikasta: Day 16 of the revolt in Greece

The night of Saturday the 20th to Sunday, December 21st, the area around the central square of Exarchia and the Polytechnic University of Athens became again the battlefield between the riot police and groups of youth. Earlier, Saturday night at 21.00 pm, at the same hour and place of the assassination of the young Alexis by the Police, a two weeks memorial meeting was held attended by a thousand people. The street itself was renamed and new plates were installed with the name   “Alexandros Grigoropoulos Street”. The clashes started immediately after the memorial and continued until the morning.

Päivittäinen raportointi Kreikasta: Day 15 of the revolt in Greece

The depth of the movement shaking two weeks now Greece, after the assassination of the young Alexis by the Police, is clearly shown also by the fact that artists and creators in the cultural field are actively involved in the revolt. Yesterday night the government wanted to inaugurate the renovated building of the National Theater in Athens and all the elite was invited, from the actual Minister of Culture Michalis Liapis, a man totally lacking any culture, to George Papandreou, leader of the official Opposition Party PASOK and chairman of the Socialist International, and to members of the big bourgeoisie, ship-owners, bankers etc. At the inauguration the premiere of a new play should be performed. But everything has collapsed as ore than a hundred of activists-actors intervened with banners and slogans calling for the release of all the arrested during the revolt (about 200) and against the government of the murderers. The whole event had to be cancelled and the elite run scared at their homes or villas in the suburbs.

Päivittäinen raportointi Kreikasta: Day 14 of the revolt in Greece

Great concerns were raised throughout Greece by   a second attack by gun two days ago  against a 16 years boy, the son of a cadre of PAME / KKE in Peristeri, a working class neighborhood,  in the greater region of Athens. The police try to cover up the whole affair claiming that somebody else did the assassination attempt; but a .38 millimeters gun is the official weapon of the Greek Police…Fortunately, the kid, after surgery does not present serious problems. Two marches of protest against this new attack took place today in Peristeri, one by the school of the injured boy, another organized by the Communist Party, KKE. Yesterday, too, the marches in Peristeri were not united: the Stalinist KKE had its own separate march, and the extra-parliamentary Left another one.
