Appeal to the workers’ movement and the left in Cyprus, Greece and Turkey

The EEK (Revolutionary Workers’ Party) of Greece and the DİP (the Initiative for the Revolutionary Workers’ Party) of Turkey, both sections of the CRFI in their respective countries, note with disgust the outrageous statement by the Turkish actor Atilla Olgaç concerning his deeds during the Turkish military intervention in Cyprus in 1974. During this statement, made during a TV show to millions of incredulous spectators, the actor confessed to shooting on the forehead  and killing a 19-year old Cypriot prisoner of war whose hands were tied after the latter spat at him and his superior. He went on to say that he killed nine other Cypriots, not elaborating on the details of these cases. Having defended his remarks to Turkish papers during interviews the next day, he then made a turnabout to retract his confession, claiming that he had mixed up the truth with the events he had imagined for a script he was writing. The question of whether the retraction was made under the pressure of Turkish authorities or as a result of the actor’s own embarrasment should not overshadow the immense significance of his previous confession.

Greece: the peasants in revolt too

A new explosive element entered the situation, already destabilized both economically and politically in Greece, particularly after the December revolt: the peasants, who in their vast majority in Greece are small proprietors of land, (owing about 42 acres each peasant family), have rebelled and paralyzed all traffic throughout the country by their road blocks. All the main routes from North to South and from East to West, have been blocked by thousands of tractors. The borders with neighbor countries have blocked too. The peasants of Serres have blocked the border with Bulgaria, the peasants of Kilkis the border with the former Yugoslav Macedonia, the peasants of Evros the land, borders with Turkey.

Pysäyttäkää sionismin suorittama kansanmurha

Israelin suorittama hävityssota Gazassa on ns. ”lopullisen ratkaisun” yksi muoto. Lopullisen ratkaisun tielle sionismi on lähtenyt lukemattomia kertoja aikaisemminkin.

Stop the Zionist terror unleashed on the people of Gaza!

Statement of the Christian Rakovsky Balkan Socialist Center

Israeli troops out of Gaza immediately!

Victory to the Palestinian Resistance!

Down with the Zionist state!

For a free, united, secular, socialist Republic in the entire historic territory of Palestine embracing the Arabs and the Jews!

The murderous war of extermination unleashed by Israel on the people of Gaza is testimony to the vicious nature of the Zionist state–if that kind of testimony was ever needed. Hypocritically presented as an attempt to stop the shelling of southern Israel with missiles and mortars by Hamas militants, the assault is in effect an all out endeavour to intimidate the civilian population of Gaza in order to eventually bring down the Hamas government elected through universal suffrage in 2005. So far more than 660 (up to now, January 7, 2009)Palestinians, among whom many children, elderly and non-combatant women, have lost their lives as a result of Israeli bombing and more than 3000 have been injured. The list of some of the buildings targeted by Israeli war planes is also telling: the prime minister’s office and several ministries, other governmental buildings, the Islamic University, and, most importantly many mosques, six to date. None of these can reasonably be argued to belong to Hamas; they are all the common patrimony of the Palestinian people, a people impoverished by decades of ruthless colonial oppression. The ground war now targets whole cities–Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanun, Jabaliya, as well as Gaza City, the capital of the Strip. Even Rafah in the south bordering Egypt is being heavily pounded by air strikes targeting the web of tunnels that serve for provisions coming into Gaza–a vital source of supplies for the population of Gaza given the vicious economic blockade being implemented by Israel for a long time now. It is the whole population of Gaza, 1.4 million souls, including children, the elderly, women and civilians in general, that is suffering immensely as a result of this ferocious offensive by the Zionist state on the densest population settlement on earth.

Päivittäinen raportointi Kreikasta: The Greek revolt continues in 2009

From our Diary of Struggle

New Year’s Eve

Perhaps we did not succeeded to burn again the hated Christmas tree of the right wing Mayor of Athens as it was done before Christmas, but we successfully organized a major intervention in Syntagma Square, in Athens in front of the Greek parliament, where thousands of people, mainly very poor immigrant workers were assembled having no other opportunity to enjoy any New Year Eve: a strong group of comrades of EEK assisted by NAR comrades of the Antiwar Internationalist Movement have raise banners in Arabic and in Greek in defense of the heroic Palestinian people of Gaza, for the immediate stopping of the massacre, for Freedom to Palestine and for the Right to return of all Palestinian refugees in their homeland. Our slogans attracted many Arab immigrant workers, and thus the rally of solidarity had a hard core of 300-400 people while our slogans were echoed by thousands in the Square. The Mayor’s speech of announcement of the New Year 2009 was greatly disturbed and he was obviously annoyed, so he had to declare his hypocritical “support” to the Gaza people. The police tried to intimidate us unsuccessfully, but no clashes took place.

Tehkää loppu Gazan kansan teurastuksesta

Marxilainen Työväenliitto
__Kannanotto 29.12.2008

Toimittajilta Gazaan pääsy on kielletty.

Kreikan kansannousu jatkuu
