Maailman sosiaalifoorumi pidettiin tänä vuonna 26. maaliskuuta maassa, josta alkoi arabikansannousujen aalto, Tunisiassa. Tapahtuma alkoi kulkueella, joka kesti kolme tuntia. Marssi lähti pääkaupungin keskustasta ja päättyi Menzahin stadionille, joka on lähellä avajaisseremonian paikkaa.
Konklaavi valitsi uuden järjestyksessä 266. paavin yli miljardille katolisen kirkon jäsenelle. Jorge Mario Bergoglio syntyi vuonna 1936 Buenos Airesissa italialaissiirtolaisperheeseen. Uusi paavi sai Franciscus I nimen. Franciscus I on ensimmäinen paavi Latinalaisesta Amerikasta. Nuorena miehenä uusi paavi oli maansa jesuiittojen johtaja ja “Guardia de Hierro” –nuorisojärjestön jäsen. Viimeksi mainittu oli peronilainen äärioikeistolainen järjestö.
Kun lukee arvostettujen porvarilehtien taloussivuja huomaa, että jotkut kirjoitukset poikkeavat jyrkästikin eri sivuilla olevista samaa aihetta käsittelevistä artikkeleista. Tämä ei johdu vain siitä, että eri kirjoitusten taustalla voi olla eri toimittajia. On olemassa laajoille kansanjoukoille tarkoitettuja uutisia ja taasen uutisia, joiden kautta talouspiirit kommunikoivat keskenään. On kansantalouteen liittyviä asioita, uutisia ja analyyseja, jotka salaavat tai tuovat esille vain osan totuudesta. On totta, että mitä suurempi on tiedon kirjo, sen hajanaisemmalta ja irrallisemmalta se vaikuttaa. Uutisten valtava määrä ei auta meidän ymmärrystä muodostamaan käsityksiä kokonaisuuksista, joiden avulla pystyisimme selittämään muita kansantalouden ilmiöitä ja yhteiskuntaa

The Troika has burned its fingers in Cyprus. It overshot and the brutal measures that it tried to impose on the people of Cyprus fired back. It tried to impose, in addition to a near 10 per cent one-off levy on the Russian money launderers, a near 7 per cent levy also on the small depositors of the island: workers and peasants, widows and pensioners were all robbed of their hard-won savings of years! The people of Cyprus immediately took to the streets and rejected these measures. In the vote taken in the Cypriot parliament in the South, not one single deputy voted for the measures agreed to by a president elected by a majority of the people less than a month ago! Total defeat for Merkel, the new tsaritsa of Europe! Shameful rejection for EU imperialism! Tiny Cyprus, producing 0.2 per cent of the overall GDP of the EU, is now threatening a collapse of the whole system!
Two years ago, in the wake of the revolutionary uprising in Tunisia in December 2010- January 2011, on the 25th of January 2011, the Egyptian people rose in rage against the 30-year dictatorship that had been ruling the country under the iron fist of Hosni Mubarak. For 18 days they fought for bread, jobs, freedom, and dignity. They occupied Tahrir Square, that aptly named square, whose name, “Emancipation” in Arabic, later resounded throughout the world symbolising the struggle of the masses everywhere. They fought the “Battle of the Camel” against the hired thugs of the regime, the notorious “Baltadji”. From 7 February on the working class staged a strong strike movement in industry, in transportation, in the docks of the Suez Canal and elsewhere. The system now had to sacrifice the dictator. Mubarak came tumbling down. The Egyptian masses thus proved to the world that the will power and courage of ordinary people, if they come together in their millions, will overcome the mightiest dictatorship.
Vapaa Vasemmisto perustettiin Oulussa ennen kuntavaaleja vuonna 2012. Marxilainen Työväenliitto päätti osallistua verkostoon kesällä 2012. Verkoston tavoitteet oli määritelty, kuten vaalikampanjassa oli esitetty. Vapaa Vasemmisto on vasemmistolaisempi kuin Vasemmistoliitto ja vihreämpi kuin Vihreä Liitto. Vaaliohjelma oli radikaali kuntaohjelma, jonka keskiössä oli vastarinta valtaeliitin harjoittamaan huonoon suuntaan, eikä kompromissi, jotta leikkausten seuraukset tuntuisi vähemmän kepeältä kuntalaisten elämässä. Toinen selkeästi määritelty aspekti oli se, että Vapaan Vasemmiston toiminta oli tarkoitettu pysyväksi myös vaalien välilläkin tapahtuvaksi. Tämä riippumatta siitä, saadaanko valtuutettuja läpi vai ei. Ennen vaaleja verkostoon sai liittyä kuka vaan –yksityinen tai järjestön edustaja– joka hyväksyy ohjelman ja kannattaa toimintaa. MTL osallistui yhdellä, SKP kolmella ja ViPu alkuvaiheessa kahdella edustajalla. Perustettiin kotisivut, keskustelulista, avattiin tili ja jaettiin tehtävät.
Vapaa Vasemmisto perustettiin puoli vuotta ennen kuntavaaleja 2012. Ryhmään liittyi järjestöjen ja puolueiden edustajia, mutta valtaosa mukaan tulleista oli puoluepoliittisesti sitoutumattomia nykypolitiikkaan ja hallitusvasemmistoon tyytymättömiä aktivisteja.

No temporizing, no liquidation! Solve the Kurdish question!
The disclosure of the fact that the MIT [1] Undersecretary Hakan Fidan has been carrying out talks with Öcalan, as well as the visit to Öcalan by Ahmet Türk, Co-chair of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), and Ayla Akat Ata, MP for the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) [2], have generated the hope in the country that the bloodletting can be stopped this time around and that the Kurdish question can be resolved. However, if one were to lend an ear to the spokespeople of the AKP government, all that is envisaged would turn out to be the “disarming of the PKK”. If we are told that this kind of language is utilised so as to appease the reaction coming from the so-called nationalists, then the question to be asked becomes how the next step will be taken. One cannot solve the Kurdish question by deceiving a section of the population! On the other hand, the proposals of the Kurdish side are clear. The protocols of Ocalan have been in the hands of the government since August 2009. Yet not one single proposal by the government to the Kurds has been disclosed. And not only have the government’s proposals not been disclosed to the public, neither have they been to the Kurdish side, as the leaders of the Kurdish movement themselves have made clear.
Nykyinen kapitalismin maailmanlaajuinen kriisi teki tuloaan 1990 –luvun loppupuolella. Muutamassa vuodessa kriisi levisi epidemian tavoin ympäri maailmaa; Kaukoitä, Venäjä, Brasilia ja Argentiina. Samanaikaisesti puhkesi epävakautta poliittisella tasolla. Argentiinan vararikko johti kansannousuun, joka kaatoi viisi presidenttiä. Maassa vallitsi pitkään kansannousun jälkeen kaksoisvalta, tapahtui tehdasvaltauksia, markettien ”ryöstelyä” ja elintarvikkeiden jakoa. Työttömien piqueteros-liike valtasi valtateitä estämällä siten ulkomaankauppaa. Kapitalismi Argentiinassa stabilisoitui muutamaksi vuodeksi kansainvälisen poliittisen ja taloudellisen tilanteen vaikutuksesta. Kapitalismin globaaliromahdukselta vältyttiin luomalla uusia kuplia ja fiktiivisiä arvoja taloudessa, sekä Kiinailmiön, että Latinalaisessa Amerikassa sovellettujen reformien ansiosta.

The new constitution submitted to referendum by Mohammed Morsi, the president of Egypt elected with the support of the Freedom and Justice party, i.e. the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, in addition to its properties of attacking working class achievements as well as women’s and minorities’ rights, is preparing the legal ground for the Brotherhood to seize the whole political power in the country. The powers proposed for the president in the constitution, not subject to any supervision, are leading Egypt towards dictatorship. This picture in Egypt is perhaps not precisely the same with what happened in Iran after the 1979 revolution, but by looking at Iran we can clearly see how the restoration of a dictatorship took place. The only important difference might be that the people of Egypt have detected the prospect of such a restoration and are trying to defend the achievements of the revolution without any hesitation. Although the continuous protests of religious minorities and women (despite all the attempts of the supporters of president Morsi such as sexual harassment and physical assaults) as well as those of political organizations forced the president to make concessions on the content of the constitutional declaration related to the powers granted to the president, Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood have gone on to complete the constitutional referendum, denying any delay requested by protesters and opposition.
