The EEK (Revolutionary Workers’ Party) of Greece and the DİP (the Initiative for the Revolutionary Workers’ Party) of Turkey, both sections of the CRFI in their respective countries, note with disgust the outrageous statement by the Turkish actor Atilla Olgaç concerning his deeds during the Turkish military intervention in Cyprus in 1974. During this statement, made during a TV show to millions of incredulous spectators, the actor confessed to shooting on the forehead  and killing a 19-year old Cypriot prisoner of war whose hands were tied after the latter spat at him and his superior. He went on to say that he killed nine other Cypriots, not elaborating on the details of these cases. Having defended his remarks to Turkish papers during interviews the next day, he then made a turnabout to retract his confession, claiming that he had mixed up the truth with the events he had imagined for a script he was writing. The question of whether the retraction was made under the pressure of Turkish authorities or as a result of the actor’s own embarrasment should not overshadow the immense significance of his previous confession.

Turkey is being convulsed by the successive waves of arrest of members of a certain wing of the Turkish Gladio (the “Kontrgerilla” in Turkish) and of putschist generals who plotted against the semi-Islamist AKP government in 2003 and 2004. The Kontrgerilla is responsible for innumerable assassinations and destabilisation operations against the workers’ movement and the left in the 70s and the Kurdish movement since the 90s. 9.1. Italiassa on levotonta yliopistoissa. Ensin vallataan Torinon yliopisto ja seuraavien päivien kuluessa perässä seuraavat muut kaupungit. Tšekkoslovakian nuoriso vaatii vapauksia. Kommunistisen puolueen Keskuskomitea kokoontui ja vaihtoi pääsihteeri Novotnyn Dubčekiin. Tie Prahan kevääseen avautuu ja läsnä ovat kaikki suuntaukset oikeistolaisista marxilaisiin.
30.1. Vietkong aloitti suurhyökkäyksen 100 kaupunkiin. Kyseessä oli Tet –hyökkäys, joka helmikuuhun mennessä ulottuu Saigonin sisään.

Oli tammikuun viimeinen päivä vuonna 1968, kun Vietnamissa juhlittiin uutta vuotta. Kyseessä oli Tet -juhla. Sen kunniaksi Vietkong-sissit (Etelä-Vietnamin kansallinen vapautusrintama, FNL) tunkeutuivat USA:n suurlähetystön ympärillä olevan muurin lävitse.

Kuuden taistelutunnin jälkeen 19 sissiä kaatui lähetystön pihalla. Hyökkäyksellä oli enemmänkin kuin symbolinen merkitys. Se käynnisti etelässä Vietkongin ja Pohjois-Vietnamin valtakunnallisen tason hyökkäyksen, jossa amerikkalaisen imperialismin arvovalta kärsi suuria takaiskuja. Imperialismi ei koskaan sen jälkeen toipunut tuosta nöyryytyksestä, joka jäi historiaan nimellä Tet- hyökkäys. Hyökkäys oli valmisteltu kommunistisen puolueen 13. täysistunnossa.
